What is a Carburetor?

In a car, many different parts and pieces of equipment are constantly working together to give you the best possible ride. The engine's job, in its most basic terms, is to burn gasoline to create pressure, which converts into the motion of your car. The carburetor acts as the assistant to your engine, mixing just the right amount of air with gasoline so the engine runs correctly. While not all cars use carburetors any more, they are still commonly found in devices such as lawn mowers and chainsaws, as well as nearly all classic cars, due to its inexpensive and simple nature.

Carburetor Troubles

Since the goal of a carburetor is to mix the correct amount of air with gasoline, there is always the danger of improper proportions. The two most basic issues that carburetors cause are making your engine:

  1. Run lean- This occurs when there is too much air relative to gasoline being put into the engine. This can cause potential damages to the engine, slow acceleration, and can make the engine more difficult to start. It also can prevent the engine from running at all.
  2. Run rich- The opposite of running lean, running rich occurs when there is too much gasoline relative to air. This can cause your engine to flood, stall easily, run poorly, or at the very least it wastes fuel and makes the car run much less efficiently.

Our staff is highly trained to spot any problems with your carburetor quickly and efficiently as well as repair and make any necessary adjustments in the most cost effective manner. Our goal is to get your vehicle running as good as new, all while saving you the most amount of money possible. We can replace your carburetor if need be, and we will help you every step along the way of selecting the perfect carburetor for your vehicle.
